Nichicon Corporation announces the development of the CH Series, chip-type aluminum electrolytic capacitors. Their high temperature resistance and low-temperature ESR specifications make them ideal for extending service life when used for in-vehicle applications. The CH Series is guaranteed for an industry high life of 2,000 hours at 125°C, and has an ESR of 6Ω after life testing. The CH Series will be displayed at Techno-Frontier 2015, held May 20 (Wednesday) to 22 (Friday) at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture, Japan.

Development Background

There is a growing demand for chip-type capacitors, whose mounting efficiency in in-vehicle devices such as the ECU (engine control unit) and drive system peripheral ECUs help make for a more comfortable vehicle interior environment. There is an especially high demand for capacitors that can withstand a wide temperature range (-40°C to +125°C) and offer continuous low-ESR performance.
With the CH Series added to its lineup, Nichicon can not only respond to demands for high temperature resistance, a characteristic which contributes to a more comfortable vehicle interior; it can also contribute to more power-saving, longer-lasting equipment.

Main Features

The CH Series builds on Nichicon’s current technology, by adopting a new low-resistance electrolyte and an optimized internal structure that allow this series to achieve further improvements in low ESR characteristics over Nichicon’s current CZ Series (125°C low-ESR specification). With the development of the CH Series, electronic modules will be better able to withstand in-vehicle environments while also achieving better power savings and a longer service life. An life of 2,000 hours at 125°C guarantees that the CH Series achieves an ESR of 6Ω, (at -40°C/400kHz), the industry’s highest level.
